For Local Associations to Host a Level 1 and or Level 2 Umpire Camp
Umpire Development Camp: In addition to completing online training, all Level 1 and 2 umpires will also attend a Baseball Ontario Umpire Camp that will be:
• 4 hours in length with Camp capacities based on gym size.
• Held in a gym or indoor field facility. No classroom required
• Hosted by local associations
• Fun and active, with an emphasis on game situations and umpiring fundamentals
• Attended by both Level 1 and 2 umpires in a combined setting
• Combine with a nearby local if participant numbers are less than 15 (combined Level 1 and 2)
• Host more than 1 camp (or book an extra-large facility) if combined Level 1 and 2 participant numbers exceed 40
Fees:
• $400 deposit and minimum fee per camp (will be applied against the final balance owing)
• $30 for each level 1 attendee
• $50 for each level 2 attendee
Peak Times
We strongly encourage local hosts to consider running their umpires camp outside of the peak period, which is April weekends. Camp applications for April weekends will be filled as received pending clinician availability, but are not guaranteed. All applications must include at least one date outside of April or on a weeknight in April.
Facility Requirements and Size
An indoor facility that is appropriate and safe for gym activities must be booked. The facility must have the ability for umpires to do drills in two separate areas.
The preferred facility size is a double gym, ideally with the capability to be split by a wall or divider. Camps at these facilities will be assigned two clinicians and may have up to 40 umpires.
If booking a single gym, the camp size is limited to 25 umpires, and may only be assigned one clinician. If booking a triple gym or other extra-large facility, the camp size may increase to 60 umpires and three clinicians may be assigned.
