One of the most exciting weekends of baseball here in Ontario is almost upon us as the Men's Senior Elimination Tournament is set to open on Friday at fields in Windsor, Tecumseh and Woodslee. This is the tournament that will decide the Ontario representative for the Men's Canadian Baseball Championships which will be held this year in Tecumseh, ON during the week of August 22nd - 25th.
In this year's edition of the Elimination Tournament, there will be 16 teams that will be vying for an Ontario Championship Title. The two-time reigning champions the Windsor Stars (12-8) headline the field of teams this year as they look to continue their strong play at this tournament. They will joined by league mates the Windsor Athletics (2-15) from the Can-Am Baseball League. The Sarnia Brigade (3-9) and the Ilderton Riverhawks (10-0-1) will make their way to Windsor as well representing the Southwestern League in the London and surrounding area. The Brigade won this tournament back in 2019 winning the final 1-0
The COBA Major Baseball League will see all six of their teams make the trek to Windsor. The Etobicoke Rangers (19-4) and the Brampton Royals (17-4) have been jockeying for 1st place all season long. The Rangers just had a 15-game winning streak snapped on Sunday in Brampton who have won 12 of their last 14 league games. The Milton Red Sox (6-12-1), the Oakville A's (5-13-1) and the Erindale Cardinals (4-15-2) ALso find themselves back in the main draw this season as well.
The Greater Toronto Baseball League will also be sending all six of their member teams to the big dance as well this coming weekend. The Newmarket Hawks (12-4) currently lead the GTBL standings and were the provincial finalists last year in Windsor. The Kendal Eagles (11-7) after a slow start find themselves trending in the right direction heading into the Elims Tournament. The East York Bulldogs (9-10-1) made a deep run last year and will look to improve upon that this year. The Leaside Leafs (8-10), Thornhill Reds (7-10) and Ajax Spartans (5-11-1) will round out the 16 team field this year.
